Zion Biblical Counseling

ZBC exists to offer Christ-centered, Spirit-filled, and clinically-informed biblical counseling to serve the Oklahoma City Metro.

About Us

Zion Biblical Counseling offers biblical counseling to individuals, couples, and families and is aligned with the CCEF model of care.In addition, CCEF’s 2018 distinctives regarding counseling align with our theological convictions and give a more robust description of our model. We have included the statement below.

01

Biblically-Based

Zion Biblical Counseling’s worldview and positions are grounded in Scripture, revealing who God is and who we are.

02

Christ-Centered

By focusing on the person of Jesus, we aim to help counselees grow in Christlikeness in their thoughts, actions, and emotions.

03

Spirit-Filled

We are dependent on the work of Holy Spirit in us and through us. He is the ultimate helper, comforter, advocate, strengthener, and counselor.

04

Clinically-Informed

We recognize that individuals come to us with diagnoses, medications, and medical histories. As physically embodied beings, they deserve care that thoughtfully addresses both body and soul.

We are not a clinically-based intervention team; therefore, if you are currently in crisis (suicidal, homicidal, manic, etc.), please call 911 or 988 for the suicide hotline.

What is Biblical Counseling?

This is a question that often generates a variety of answers. There is perhaps no better answer to this question than one found in "Biblical Counseling Basics: Roots, Beliefs, and Future" by Jeremy Lelek:“Biblical counseling endeavors to build a relationship with another person in which God’s work of change can thrive. It is therefore dependent on the Word of God, the work of the Holy Spirit and the grace of Jesus Christ. It seeks to build a contextualized understanding of the counselee (past and present) and will view that data through the lens of Scripture. The Biblical counselor rests in the knowledge that he is not the change agent, but a tool in the hands of the One who is. The biblical counselor does not ignore physical issues or emotional data, but seeks to integrate them into a holistic understanding of the person and where change needs to take place. The biblical counselor is not adversarial in his relationship to the psychologies of his culture, but examines research and insights through the lens of Scripture. In his work with the counselee the biblical counselor always recognizes the sovereignty of God, the transformative grace of Christ, and the insight-giving and conviction-producing ministry of the Holy Spirit. In all of this the biblical counselor sees himself not as an isolated instrument of change, but one whose work is intimately connected to God’s primary tool of change; the church, with all of its God-ordained, duties, structures and means of grace.”

Additionally, we seek a "suggested donation" to help us provide provide high level services to our counselees. We understands that the suggested donation amount might not be feasible in some circumstances. We seek to not turn away anyone in need due to financial reasons. In these circumstances, please contact us to discuss a scholarship or church partnership. We will work with you to set a reduced suggested donation amount that is tailored to your situation. In most cases we do ask counselees to invest in their own counseling by contributing financially in some way.Contributions towards counseling services will be based on a sliding scale of your household's adjusted gross income.

Suggested donation amounts are based upon a 50 minute session

Individual$75-$100
Marriage/Premarital$100-$125

Support Our Ministry

ZBC depends on the generosity of local churches and donors like you.In order to continue to offer our high quality biblical counseling at an affordable rate, we are dependent upon churches and individuals to subsidize our ministry with financial gifts. We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, so every dollar that you donate will be used toward the ministry and is tax deductible. You will receive a giving statement following your donation.
If you have questions about donating, feel free to reach out.

Ministry Partners

One of the core convictions of Zion Biblical Counseling is that counseling should be affordable. Thus, we want to offer our services at a recommended donation based on what the counselee can afford.
Through tiered partnerships with churches and businesses as well as individual sponsorships, there are many ways that we can collectively alleviate (if not eliminate) financial roadblocks for those in need.
ZBC relies on partnerships with businesses, local churches, and individuals to sustain our work. With a financial partnership, churches and businesses can receive counseling services in exchange for ongoing financial support. Please contact us at [email protected] to discuss partnering.

Christian Counseling Education Foundation (CCEF) Model of Care (2018)

"CCEF’s distinctives regarding counseling grow out of our theological convictions. The points listed below express some of the counseling implications of our theological convictions. This statement was first published by the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation. You can find their most recent biblical counseling distinctives at www.ccef.org/about."We are Christ-centered.
Therefore, we point people to a person, Christ, and not a program. He is wisdom from God, the inexpressible gift who delivers us from our sins and sufferings. He is the faith-nourishing foundation in whom the call to obedience finds its inner principle and power. People need the Savior, not a system of self-salvation.
We believe in God’s common grace to all humanity, and therefore we can learn from those who do not espouse a Christian or even a theistic worldview.
For example, while the fundamental worldview of secular psychology runs counter to Christianity, there are descriptive riches to be found in the writings and teachings of those who have gained case wisdom through their research and care. These materials can enrich our care of those in need and can be useful to us as we continue to develop our biblically-based counseling method.
We are aware that human behavior is inextricably tied to deeper motivational drives.
Therefore, we emphasize the primacy of the heart, because all human acts arise from a worship core, either disordered or rightly ordered.
We believe that we best image the triune God as we live and grow in community.
Therefore, we embed personal change within God’s community—the church, with all its rich resources of corporate and interpersonal means of grace.
We believe the Scriptures are rich in their understanding of who we are as human beings.
Therefore, we use Scripture with a full commitment to its authority and sufficiency, convinced that from beginning to end, it reveals Christ and his powerful redeeming grace addressing the needs and struggles of the human condition.
We believe that human beings are both spiritual and physical beings.
Therefore, we recognize that people are physically-embodied by God’s design. A variety of bodily influences impact moral response. We take the whole person seriously, granting that there are ambiguities at the interface of soul and body. We seek to remain sensitive to physiological factors, as the context within which God calls a person to faith and obedience.
We believe that people are socially-embedded by God’s design.
Therefore, we recognize that a variety of socio-cultural influences and sufferings influence moral response. We take the person’s whole context seriously, granting that there are ambiguities at the interface between an individual and their environment. We seek to remain sensitive to social factors, as the context within which God calls a person to faith and obedience.
We believe that the incarnation of Jesus is not just the basis for care but also the model for how care is to be administered.
Therefore, we seek to enter into a person’s story, listening well, expressing thoughtful love. Such incarnational patience recognizes that a particular season of intentional counseling plays one part within a life-long process of Christian growth.
We believe that Jesus is our faithful Redeemer who enables us to persevere in the midst of our problems.
Therefore, we understand that change is often slow and hard. Jesus promises no instant panacea. He abides in us as we abide in him. He gives grace to walk a long obedience in the same direction, learning wisdom.
We believe that we at CCEF have not “arrived.” We have not fully and clearly expressed all that the Bible has to say about counseling ministry.
Therefore, because Jesus tarries and we are not yet what we shall be, we humbly admit that we struggle to consistently apply all that we say we believe. We want to learn and grow in wisdom. We who counsel and teach counseling live in process, just like those we counsel and teach."
